Playdough+TV’s+Beats=Worship

On Sunday we experimented with what worship might look like for our community.

We started the evening by three of us sharing songs from our album collections where we experienced God in some way throughout the week. And were not talking about those horrible Christian songs either. Real songs. Nora Jones, Jeff Buckly and Trinity Roots were the order of the day, with some great incites brought to the group. While each song played we all drew pictures with crayons or sculpted playdough green (red and white coloured, following our theme of community/trinity) into pieces of…errr…. worship art?

Then we all moved into our worship space, where we had various prayer stations set up and projected images while a few of us provided a live electronic soundtrack to the evening…

Here are some photos I got sent from someones cell phone.

In this station we had Acts 2:42-47 written out, and a kids drawing of his family being shown on the TV’s. This emphasised the family element of our community.

Here was a table we set up at the last minute with the Eucharist on it and a bible open with the upper room discourse in Mathew.

This is a table we set up with a cross hanging up made out of the comments we had made in our teaching session where we wrote down the positive things we each brought to the community. We also had a white candle with the name of each person present, which people picked up and lite off the centre red cross (symbolising Christ lighting us), said a prayer for that person, and then placed it in the candle holding block so they would all shine together when they were all lit (symolising how together we are Christ light on the earth). We also had 1 Corinthians 12:27 written to help people bring some clarity to these ideas.

After a good half hour or so of music, prayer and worship, we stood in a circle and served each other Communion… and then went on to destroy a couple of packets of biscuits together. Thank you Jesus for vegan friendly Oreo’s!

Lyrics to Grace – incase you want to check them out 🙂

There’s the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Well it’s my time coming, i’m not afraid, afraid to die

My fading voice sings of love
But she cries to the clicking of time,
    Wait in the fire…

And she weeps on my arm
Walking to the bright lights in sorrow
Oh drink a bit of wine we both might go tomorrow
    Oh my love…

And the rain is falling and i believe my time has come
And it reminds me of the pain i might leave behind
    Wait in the fire…

And i feel them drown my name
So easy to know and forget with this kiss
But i’m not afraid to go, baby it’s all because of you
But i’m not afraid to go, but it goes so slow, slow
Wait in the fire, wait in the fire
    Wait in the fire…

…don’t you take it away from me
